The MBendi Website Newsletter
In 1995, back in the early days of the Internet, we set up a website to
help companies to do business in and with Africa. Since then the scope of our
services and of our website has expanded to cover all the corners of the globe
and all aspects of business. Today, our website is used by a huge international
audience, mostly business people from organisations large and small. And their
interests range far beyond the confines of Africa.
Along the way we started publishing a newsletter which we now deliver
by E-mail to nearly 100,000 recipients twice each month. At first we just
talked about what was happening on our website. Then we moved on to summarising
all the activities, many of them positive despite the normal negative press,
taking place in the African business environment.
Finally, we started commenting on where the world might be headed come
2020, trying to pick up pointers along the way from the flood of information
floating past us each day. And, naturally, because we live at the foot of
Africa, we tend to take an African view of where the world is going, often very
different from conventional first world wisdom.

Skimming back over the MBendi newsletters from 2004 to 2007, we were so
struck by how much the world has changed and not changed since then that we

of the changes Africa and the world have gone through and to stimulate thinking
about the issues we all face, no matter where we live, in the years ahead. It
makes a fascinating read!
