A 15 year (1996-2010) Tourist Development Plan, which emphasises historical heritage, nature-based, recreational and conference tourism, has been put into operation.
There is hotel accommodation of international standard, stunning beaches and lakes.
The number of licensed hotels has grown from some 280 in 1989 to more than 500 in 1995. In the capital Accra a first class 5 star hotel as well as a number of four star hotels, managed by internationally renowned companies are already operating.
Ghana boasts a development of safari lodges and camps in Ghana's unique wild life and natural park reserves. There has been good development of efficient transport linkages between tourist sites in Ghana and within the sub-region. There are numerous tourist sites along with the development of recreational activities and infrastructure like water sports, river rafting and adventure tourism activities.
All foreigners entering Ghana require entry visas. Entry visas must be obtained prior to arrival, from a Ghana Embassy.
