 - UNITED KINGDOM (Pulp and Paper)

^ Overview

Only around 0.65 Mt pulp are derived from UK managed forests (around 10% of available land is forested), representing only 8% of pulp needed. The UK is thus Europe’s second largest importer of paper and board, with timber products, including woodpulp and paper goods, representing the UK’s third biggest import.

Waste paper pulp comprises around 60% of UK’s raw material feed, with over 25% being imported from countries such as the USA, Canada, Sweden, Finland and Brazil.

Major companies include Arjo Wiggins Appleton, a subsidiary of French Worms et Cie, and Jefferson Smurfit Group plc.
