Togo grid was to be given interconnection facilities in the first phase of the agreement.

Togo, along with Benin, has been s beneficiary of power integration in the form of the West African Gas Pipeline (WAGP) and the West African Power Pool (WAPP), which were two major energy projects that were established for the region. The objective of the WAGP is to enable provide Benin, Ghana and Togo access to Nigeria's massive resources of natural gas as fuel for power generation and industrial development.

Owing to the two countries position between Nigeria, Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire and the implementation of the projects, gas will be the primary fuel for much of the electricity generated. With this in mind, Togo has been connected to the power grid of Côte d'Ivoire.
