Distribution and marketing of fuels products is carried out by Shell Mauritius Ltd with around 35% of the market, followed by Esso Mauritius Ltd (24%), Caltex Oil Mauritius Ltd (18%), Total Mauritius Ltd (15%) and Elf Gaz Mauritius. Shell Mauritius Ltd is also listed on the Stock Exchange of Mauritius.
Although Mauritius does not have a national oil company, its State Trading Corporation (STC) handles imports of petroleum products.
Elf Antargaz and Shell commissioned a 3,000 ton LPG terminal for receiving, storing, and exporting LPG. The joint venture, ESCOL (Energy Storage Company Ltd) was established with a view to regional re-export opportunities. As a result, the facility has been given free trade zone status.
