Australia is an emerging producer of vanadium, with several major development projects. The joint venture between Xstrata AG (60%) and Precious Metals Australia (40%), began production in early 2000 on the Windimurra project which will eventually supply 10% of global vanadium. Xstrata have subsequently purchased PMA's remaining interest in Windimurra.
Dominion Mining is still assessing the feasibility of the Balla Balla Vanadium project in NW Australia.
