Portugal has the only producing tin mines in Europe. However, production has been declining over the past few years to 2 120t in 2001.
Closure of the South Crofty mines by Crew Development Corporation in
Cornwall, England has been completed. The Cornwall tin mines have been
producing tin for over 400 years and have been the centre of tin mining in
Europe for a long time. Although the mine remains closed and flooded, local company Baseresult Plc is trying to reopen the mine.
