Bolivia and Peru are the only major producers of antimony in Latin America.
Other major producers of antimony are China, Russia and South Africa.
Bolivia’s antimony, like South Africa’s is free of contaminants,
making it at a premium over Russian and Chinese ores. Antimony provides 42% of
Bolivia’s mining revenues. Peru produced 364 t and Bolivia 6000t in1998,
respectively.
EMUSA’s (Empresa Minera Unificada Sociedad Anonima) mine has been put
on care and maintenance due to the decline in antimony prices in Peru.
