Canada is the only real producer, producing 554t of antimony in1998.
However, Canada’s two main producers Amspec and Roycefield Resources have
had their mine’s production suspended due to the low antimony price.
Canadian production in 1996 was 1 380 kg – when these mines were in full
production.
Mexico produced 1 331 t in 1998 up 14% from the previous year’s 1168t
in 1997.
The USA has a single producer, Sunshine Mining Co, which produces antimony
as a by-product of silver and copper mining activities.
The following companies produce antimony as a by product or have an interest
in a mine or prospect: Minera y Refinadora Mexicana, Amspec, Roycefield
Resources, Noranda and Teck Cominco.
