Telecommunications services in Burkina Faso are fair. The government sold its 51% stake in the national telephone company in 2006, planning to retain only 23%. Fixed lines are limited - only 94 800 lines in use in 2006. In contrast, mobile usage is increasing rapidly, with 1 050 000 mobile phones in use in 2007.
Internet usage is also on the increase, with 80 000 internet users and 1 700 broadband subscribers recorded in 2007.
