Nigeria: Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing
 - Agriculture

^ Overview

Agriculture in Nigeria accounts for around two-fifths of the countries GDP. Nigeria's major crops in the 1990's included palm, peanut oil, rubber, and cotton. These products are exported minimally and are sold locally. Other agricultural products include sorghum, millet, maize (corn), yams, and cassava, all formerly used as subsistence foods by farmers but are now widely sold for cash.

The majority of Nigeria's food production comes from small scale farmers using basic agricultural equipment. The government has recently in the 1980's and 1990's put substantial amounts of money into improving farming through investment into rural infrastructure and irrigation projects and by introducing modern agricultural chemicals.
