The Malawi economy is base predominantly on agriculture, which accounts for almost half of GDP and almost all export revenues. Cotton, sugar, tobacco and sugar dominate the country's exports.
Malawi's major cash crop is tobacco, which brings in nearly all the country's hard currency earnings. However, neither Malawi's tobacco industry, nor agriculture in general has been prospering in recent years.
