ABOUT THE SHORT MBA

Created in 1991

The short MBA for Executives on Energy Management has attracted over 17 years more than 400 participants from the major oil and gas companies of America, Africa, Middle East and Asia, as well as Europe. Each session continues to be the opportunity, following presentations by prestigious lecturers, for intense debate and discussion amongst the participants. A typical session, after an introductory talk, would be discussion of a case study followed by a forum and finishing with a synthesis of the study.

The aim of the seminar is to enable those individuals to have an overall view of the energy sector, to understand the main technical aspects and appreciate the strategic importance and economics of the different segments (exploration, production, refining, marketing of hydrocarbons, transport and distribution of natural gas, and the production, transmission, and distribution of electricity), as well as the financial, human resources, and strategic management aspects. The programme has been carefully designed to allow over the two weeks an in depth analysis of all the different aspects. It covers three areas:

  • BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT
Energy Perspectives including the International Economic Environment, Energy Resources and Competition, Energy Companies’ Strategies, Environmental Issues and Major Challenges.
  • ENERGY MANAGEMENT
Including Oil and Gas Exploration and Production, Refining, Gas and Electricity production, Transport and Distribution, Renewable Energies, and all aspects of Energy Markets.
  • STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT
Finance and Economics, Human Resources, Management.

At the end of the two weeks participants will have a greater understanding of the different links in the energy chain and a good knowledge of the strategic issues of the various sectors.

The recent developments of “multi-energy” companies and the trend of convergence of oil, gas, and power companies, are specifically addressed. The impact of deregulation and new regulations -in particular in the gas and electricity sectorsare analysed in depth.
